View or Change the Settings for a Committee

A committee's settings control its name, description, who's eligible to join, and how members find and apply to it -- separate from managing who's actually a member (see View or Change the Membership of a Committee for that).

Steps

  1. Click Membership on the vertical Dashboard menu at the left side of the screen, then click Committees.
  2. Locate the committee you want to change and click the Edit icon (the pencil) in its Actions column.
  3. On the EDIT COMMITTEE page, update any of the fields described below.
  4. Click Save Committee to save your changes, or Cancel to discard them.

Tip: the Edit Committee page also has a Manage Members link at the top, so you can jump straight to that committee's membership screen without leaving Settings first.

Committee Settings Fields

  • Committee Name* and Committee Description* (required) -- the name and description shown wherever the committee appears, including your public Committees page if you have one.
  • Limited To (Optional): restrict who's eligible to join this committee to members carrying a specific membership tag. Leave it set to None to allow any member to be eligible.
  • Committee Image (Optional): an image shown alongside the committee on your public Committees page, if you have one.
  • Is Public: controls whether this committee shows up on your public-facing Committees page at all. Set to Yes so members can find and apply to it there, or No to keep it hidden from public browsing -- useful while you're still setting a new committee up.
  • Application Forms (Optional): require applicants to fill out one of your organization's existing custom forms before joining. Leave it set to None to skip requiring an application.
  • By Invitation Only: set to Yes if members should only be able to join this committee when you personally add them, rather than applying on their own from the public site. Set to No to allow eligible members to apply themselves.
  • Term Start Date and Term End Date (Optional) -- define how long a membership term on this committee lasts, if your committee runs on fixed terms.
  • Committee Leaders: choose one or more members to designate as this committee's leader(s).
