Edit Settings for an Uploaded Document
Use the EDIT FILE window to rename an uploaded file or change who can view it, without having to delete and re-upload it.
Steps
- Click on the Features tab on the vertical Dashboard menu at the left side of the screen.
- Click on the Documents tab.
- Click the folder that contains the file you want to update.
- Find the file’s row and click the gear-shaped Settings icon in the Actions column.
- In the EDIT FILE window, update the file’s name and/or visibility (see below).
- Click Save to apply your changes.
What You Can Change
- File name — the text field holds everything before the file extension; the extension itself (like .pdf or .jpg) stays fixed and can’t be edited.
- Visibility — the same Viewable By Public, Viewable By All Members, and committee/tag options available when uploading a file, described in Create a Folder.
Reminder: A file can be equally or more restrictive than the folder it’s in, but never less restrictive — for example, a file inside a Members-only folder can be Admin Only, but it can’t be made public.
To exit without saving, click Cancel, press Esc, or click the X in the top right corner. To permanently remove the file instead, click Delete File — see Upload Contents to or Delete Contents from a Folder.
