Add Custom Fields to Your Member or Household Form
Add Custom Fields to Your Member or Household Form
OverviewCustom Fields let you collect and store additional information beyond the standard fields HOA Start provides out of the box — for example, which sub-association a household belongs to, or whether a unit is owner-occupied or a rental. You can add custom fields to either the Member Form (Membership > Member Form) or the Household Form (Households > Household Form).
Custom Fields vs. Admin Only Fields
The Member Form has two sections:
- Custom Fields — visible and editable by the member themselves, in addition to your admin team.
- Admin Only Fields — visible and editable only by your admin team; members never see these on their own profile.
The Household Form has a single Custom Fields section (no separate Admin Only Fields section) — anything you add there is visible in the household's edit window for your team, and it can also be collected automatically during a Households Import.
How to Add a Custom Field
- Go to Membership > Member Form or Households > Household Form, depending on which record type you want to add the field to.
- On the Member Form, decide whether the new field should go under Custom Fields or Admin Only Fields, then click the matching Add Custom Field or Add Admin Only Field button. On the Household Form, click Add Custom Field.
- Name the field and set up its options — for example, a dropdown field lists out the choices you want available (existing Harmony Heights examples include a "Sub Association Name" field with choices like "Forest of Greystone," "Lakes of Greystone," and "Beaches of Greystone," and a "Property" field with choices "Owner" and "Renter").
- Click Save Changes to apply your update.
Editing or Removing an Existing Field
Each existing custom field has edit and remove icons next to it. Click edit to change the field's name or options, or remove to delete it entirely — removing a field also removes any data members or households have already entered into it.
Previewing Your Form
